I think it’s easy to fall into sin when we are not — what I call — availing ourselves of the means of grace. We can’t walk in the spirit and in power in our flesh. We MUST meet with Him regularly in the Bible and in prayer so that we are walking “in the spirit.”
I totally get where you are coming from, and I am not agreeing or disagreeing when making my comment. I would just like to share what my experience has become.
I spent many of my Christian years “availing myself of God’s grace”… and I will admit it was hard work and not a lot of fun. After approximately 30 years of “trying” to experience grace, I found myself laying on my bed one night in desperation and exhausted by my Christian experience that I called out yet once again - “Jesus, please don’t let me miss your purpose for my life, before I pass from this world!”.
Everything changed for me after that… a spiritual “earthquake” of a magnitude 10 hit me and EVERYTHING I had built came crumbling down, including my faith! For 2 weeks I was wondering whether I should just choose the atheist route or see if there is another way with God.
There was another way with God, and it is called “Encountering Jesus”. I know that phrase is used a lot, but for the first time I knew what it meant. When I wasn’t “availing myself” of anything, He just appeared…dropped in on me.
And He does this every day now, I don’t have to go looking for Him by doing devotions or reading my Bible. He wakes me in the morning with something that would look like this “What do you think about this (random topic)? And then sometimes He will say, Why don’t you go look that up in the Bible, and I will teach you what it means. We just talk like friends do.
Walking “in the spirit” is simply being aware of His presence within us. When one is conscious of Him, you begin living under the sweet influence of His Spirit…by osmosis. He is always there, breaking in on my life when I am not even looking for Him.
But I am in love with Him now, and as lovers are… their hearts are always connected. He reads my heart before I even know what to express, and He brings me “chocolate” (inspiration) to make my joy full. Grace is truly a GIFT… getting to experience Jesus in this real and living way… this comforting way makes this life of devotion a lot of FUN.
There is no room for “sin consciousness”, when you know you are unconditionally accepted by Love. It makes one SON conscious and the thing that occupies our “space” (in mind, soul and heart) is what will push out to the surface.
Spirit does not come from the Bible, He comes when we gain “Awareness” that He is inside… shadowing you, if you will. And awareness is not a thing of the “logical” mind tho, it is “seeing” (an illumination or flash/lightning) with your inner eye.
The phrase “every eye shall see Him” is probably not talking about physical eyes seeing Jesus coming in the clouds… but the “eye of consciousness” seeing the “lightning” (getting lit up) by God.
I hope this helps in at least showing that it keeps getting better with Jesus and He has some wonderful things to surprise us with. π
PS: Oh and I did forget to mention that there is no “work” or “effort” required to maintain this relationship with Jesus. This is truly what the Bible calls “Sabbath rest”.
